The Ralph and Lucy Hirschmann Visiting Professorship honors the legacy of Ralph F. Hirschmann, the former Makineni Research Professor of Chemistry. Ralph spent 37 years at Merck before beginning a second career with Penn Chemistry in 1987. He was elected to the National Academy of Science in 1999 and received the National Medal of Science in 2000. Ralph passed away in 2009.
