"Total Syntheses of Nannocystins and Biomimetic Syntheses of Natural Products"

Abstract: Natural product synthesis has benefited drug discovery by providing a supply alternative to the natural source, and by making more active analogs. Our laboratory at SUNY-Albany is focused on total synthesis of natural products. One direction of our program is to synthesize natural products with promising biological activities. The total syntheses of anticancer natural products nannocystins will be discussed in this talk. Another direction of our program is biomimetic synthesis of natural products. Our synthesis of homodimericin and recent progress of the syntheses of hitorins A and B will be presented.
