The Penn Chemistry XAFS Facility enables X-ray absorption measurements (XANES and EXAFS) suitable for research and development in energy storage, catalysis, electronic structure analysis, materials characterization, and more. The facility, located on the 3rd floor of the Vagelos building, contains an easyXAFS300 spectrometer. This instrument performs hard X-ray (~5-20 keV), transmission-mode absorption spectroscopy within a compact, lab-scale setup. The system is equipped with a cryo-cooler for variable temperature measurements (40-298 K) and provides methods for both air-sensitive data collection and remote sample management via an 8-position autosampler. Sample preparation equipment is available, and the facility’s managers offer extensive training, maintenance, and support.
Should you have any inquiries or need assistance determining how XAFS spectroscopy can contribute to your research, the XAFS facility staff are ready and willing to assist. For training opportunities or additional information, please contact the facility’s managers at xafs-managers@sas.upenn.edu.
